BMW R 1250 RS Sports Tourer.

The Multi tasking BMW R 1250 RS Sports Tourer.

BMW's new R 1250 RS is their pedigree Sports Touring machine. It's a bike that can multi-task and be all things to its riders. Fueler's biker, Jeremy Webb, gets his leg over the tasty Tourer.

Front on the BMW R 1250 RS has Menacing looks, with its headlights looking like piercing eyes from some mythical creature which is quite apt. The bike is a beast but a refined one that is a joy to ride.

The R 1250 RS has a 2-cylinder Boxer engine which is 1,254cc and generates 136 hp, sufficient to power you along all day on those epic tours and blast around country lanes on a day jaunt.

Eco mode has been added to the new model and joins the Road and Rain Modes. Eco softens the throttle map and moderates the engine torque. It encourages you to ride as efficiently as you can so you save on fuel use. The TFT display provides an efficiency rating while you are in Eco mode so you can see how much fuel you are using at all times.

The TFT colour display has integrated arrow navigation, extensive connectivity, superb readability, straightforward menu navigation, and a highly integrated operating concept. You can choose between customised screen displays for various purposes. The "Sport" Core Screen provides real-time information about the current and maximum lean angle and control interventions like ABS Pro or DTC. The LED turn indicators are redesigned and come as standard spec, as are ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control and Dynamic Brake Control and a second USB socket with a 5-volt power supply.

Light White and black frame are standard, and the optional Sport Style is Light White with Racing Blue and Racing Red paint, a Light White frame, gold front and rear brake calipers, and with blue front spoiler. The other option is the Triple Black Style option with Black Storm paint, an Agate Grey frame, gold front and rear brake calipers, and a stainless-steel engine spoiler.

Upgrade to the Premium package, and you get Riding Modes Pro, providing additional, individually configurable riding modes. With the Premium package, the Engine Drag Torque Control can safely avoid unstable riding conditions while coasting or downshifting due to excessive slip at the rear tyre.

The BMW R 1250 RS has several competitors in the Sports Touring sector. Three to mention are Suzuki GSX-S1000GT

Honda NC 750

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello.

The BMW R 1250 RS makes perfect sense for buyers who want a flexible bike to fulfil many tasks: commuting, fast weekend rides and ultimate tours, and even a track day if you wish. The lightness is pleasing because you can move it around easily when storing it or parking on the street, and this also means you can easily throw it around when riding. The wide bars allow for a comfortable, upright riding position so you can handle those long rides when touring. You know the Boxer engine will go on all day at high speeds even if heavily laden, so long days in the saddle aren't a chore.
