Airbag Jeans Protection For Motorcyclists.

Let me introduce you to a new concept which is in development and launching in 2021. Swedish firm Airbags Inside has created jeans made from a material which is stronger than steel. They also contain airbag protection which deploys in the unfortunate event of an accident, protecting the legs of the wearer.

The airbag offers impact reducing protection while the denim is more robust than steel, due to the UHMWPE fibres used in the airbag jeans. The fibre was first invented for use in space suits and has become available as denim for the motorcycle airbag jeans.

The company is using the fibre to offer the best abrasion-resistant properties available on the motorcycle market. The fibre outperforms Aramid fibres (such used in Kevlar) in abrasions tests, and the UHMWPE is 14X stronger than steel while it is 8X lighter than steel (less dense).
